Friends, Feathers and Fringe

Today we got to see two of my sweet, dear friends!

I had lunch with Constance (Kurt was sweet and kept Evy for me), who I've known since high school, and then she came by to see my sweet baby. Evy decided to stay in her Christmas jammies all day. Why not!?

Then Auntie Brooke came by. I've known Brooke also since high school, and we always have a ton to catch up on. Evy was napping the majority of the time we were chatting (she rarely takes long naps so this was a treat!), and when she woke up she was Miss Personality.

Then Lin (our nickname for Brooke's mom, short for Linda) came by to pick up Brooke and ended up staying 2 more hours. It was wonderful to spend time with them while Kurt was on call! It made the night go by so much more quickly, and we had so much fun.

After Evy went to bed, I thought about all I had to do (which thankfully does not include painting!). Since I'm leaving on a massive 2-week trip and need to get a ton of things packed, the house straightened, and laundry folded, I decided to read my new e-book that I downloaded: The Ultimate Tassel Guide by the Nester. I have a love affair with tassels, but I can never afford them. They always seem so expensive. So this how-to guide (well, anything the Nester does, really) was right up my alley.

I couldn't find a topper to save my life, but then I found the top of a bottle that I thought might work. I had lots of ribbon and trim that I never used with my Artistry, and I figured now was the best time to give tasseling a try (because I had nothing better to do).

So here's the finished product:

You probably can't see very well, but it gives you the general idea. White and cream fluffy chenille-y trim, loops of white sheer ribbon, and feathers from another project that I discovered a few nights ago: making hair accessories. I got tired of seeing all of these super cute headbands that I knew I could make myself. So I went to the Walgreens (I've realized it's a very funny Southern quirk to say "the" before any store name and add an "s" to the end of it) and got some cheap headbands. Then I went to Hobby Heaven Lobby (The Hobby Lobbys?) and got some fake flowers. After pulling apart the flowers, I just hot glued them on. I don't have a picture of the flower headbands yet, but here's a picture from my phone of a feather that I hot glued to a bobby pin:

So, yes. That's where I got the feathers for my tassel.

Now that I've shared this all with the Internet, I need to actually accomplish something. Or maybe I'll wait until tomorrow when Kurt's home and can help me. That's a better idea. He won't be surprised that I didn't get a ton of packing done tonight. Thankfully, he looks kindly on things like accessory- and tassel-making.
