GO see UP!

It's rare these days to find a movie that is truly wonderful. Just when you think that Hollywood couldn't go any lower, you see a movie like this and it reminds you that there are people out there who still "get it." As in, they understand what life is about.

Go see "UP!" Kurt and I had a date tonight and went to see this awesome movie, and then we had sushi. So much fun! Warning: this movie is deeper than expected. As Kurt put it, "Who even thinks up storylines like this?!" You will laugh, cry (trust me), and walk away completely satisfied that you just spent money on a movie ticket. And these days, that's rare.

One of my favorite quotes from the movie comes from the little boy, Russell: "My dad and I would sit on a curb and count cars. I'd count the red ones, and he'd count the blue ones. I really like that curb. You know, it probably sounds pretty boring, but I remember the boring stuff the most."

Support this precious movie. You won't be sorry!

Reviews, Please....

Hello friends :o)

I have a little request! If I have done artwork for you, will you email me a "review" so I can put it on my Artistry blog? Kurt suggested I have a place where people can see what my customers thought of the artwork, service, etc. I really hope that's not annoyingly self-promoting...? Ha! Just email me if you get the chance. Thanks so much!

Looks like someone has had a tiring week----HAPPY WEEKEND!

SOLVED!!!!

I found the email (actually it was a comment...maybe that was my problem?)! Mrs. Dirnberger!! If you will email me, I will give you all my tips. SO SORRY! :o)

Help!

Okay, this makes me sound 80 years old and like I have memory loss (which I do...I have a 4 month old)....

Someone out there emailed me awhile back asking for advice about strollers, baby gear, etc. Somehow that email got lost/deleted, and I can't remember who it was! (Eeek!) So if that was you, please email me (ashley61985@gmail.com) and I will get back to you IMMEDIATELY. I am so sorry; I have no idea how it slipped through the cracks. If more than one person are curious about tips, etc., then comment and let me know, and I'll do a post about it!

Thanks, friends :o)

Nursery Questions

Hi everyone!

I've loved seeing nurseries on this week's home tour! I have had a few questions about Evy's room, so I'll answer them here.

-My inspiration photograph was found on www.ohdeedoh.com

-Here is a closer look at the bedding, including a "ballerina tutu"-looking bedskirt. Yes, that's the phrase I used to describe it to my MIL :o)

-Here is Kurt putting up the wall monogram. Don't be fooled: it takes two people. But for the result, it's not too bad of a process. Also, they are completely removable (although they can't be reused) if you move, etc.---no repainting!! So they are great for apartments, etc. if that's your situation. Visit Three Hip Chicks, Etsy (search for Wall Monograms) or Wonderful Graffiti (great items for the whole house as well).

-The fabric we used was Angel Toile. It is PERFECT because it brings a neutral color into the mix and is just plain pretty :o) I also showed it covering a chair so you can see it better (photo from The Bella Cottage).

-The walls are beige/neutral, in case you couldn't see that very well. It offsets the pink perfectly, and we won't have to repaint when we sell this house (everyone loves neutral, right?).

Thanks SO much for all the great comments! I owe my sweet mother-in-law for making my vision a reality :o)

Please visit again!

Kelly's Home Tour---Nursery Edition

Welcome to another edition of Show Us Where You Live, hosted by Kelly, and welcome to Evy Kate's nursery!

This was my inspiration photograph. I loved the neutral color, chandelier, angel wings, and bedding: (Photo found on www.ohdeedoh.com)

And here's how it turned out:

On top of the dresser is a framed letter that my dad wrote to Evy, and we hung angel wings, like the inspiration photo. If you're interested, there's a special story behind the wings.

This is the wall monogram that I ordered. It was peel-and-stick, but the process was a bit tedious at times! However, it was well wort
h it. I plan to use more elements like this in our next home---we'll be there longer! Ha!

This is the dresser/rocking chair corner. Me and all 3 of my siblings used this dresser (it's an antique), and Kurt's mom added a fabric panel in the door. My in-laws also refinished the glider. The sign above the dresser is a saying from Shakespeare: "The blessedness of being little." Isn't it the truth?

Speaking of Kurt's mom, she is literally an amazing seamstress. She can do anything. She FOUND the fabric that was used in the inspiration photo (I had found similar fabrics, but she found THE ONE) and made the curtains, bedding, and fabric panel for the dresser. Isn't she talented? When/if I want to re-use this bedding for another child, we'll just insert a new panel in the bumper pad with the new little one's name.

This is a closer look at the chandelier. As some of you have read before, I found this at Hobby Lobby for $25! My brother-in-law Kelly and my father-in-law Randy helped us figure out how to re-wire it so it would be a pendant light and wouldn't have to be plugged into an outlet. I saw similar chandeliers in the $200's. We did it for so much less!

This is a closer look at what's on the dresser: a picture of me with my Nana and Poppy when I was about 2-3, a beautiful gold cross, and a little Frog Prince figurine. I hope Evy doesn't have to kiss many frogs to find her prince (I don't want her kissing AT ALL), but I thought it was so cute and fairy-tale-like. Around him are her little bracelets and her hospital bracelet :o)

And since this is the Lancaster household, and I am Evy's mother, her room wouldn't be complete without a fairy tale castle painting! I actually didn't paint this (I do paint for other people, though). I am never getting rid of it--EVER! My mom bought this for me after I found it in a baby boutique and fell in love.

Well, now you've seen the prettiest room in the house :o) This really was my favorite room I've decorated. I just love nurseries. But as much as I love the room, I love infinitely more the little girl who sleeps there:

Her onesie says "Children are a gift from the Lord; a reward from Him!" Thank you Lord, for this blessing!

And thank YOU for stopping by!

NEW: I answered some questions I've gotten about the nursery HERE. Read if interested!

Welcome to the New Happily Ever Afters!

Yes, we had a little makeover here at my blog. Don't you love it?! I am always up for fun change like this, and Leslie did a FANTASTIC job! And she was so quick! This was my Mother's Day gift, and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. Also, you'll notice that I have a blog button for my blog (not just my Artistry site), so grab it if you'd like. Happy reading, and thanks a million, Leslie!

Addicted to Collages!

I had been wondering how to make collages of things I love for some time now. So, thanks to Heidi, I learned how! Polyvore.com lets you create collages of fashion and interior design---right up my alley! I was watching an Andy Williams Christmas Show DVD today, which inspired me. So, here is my very first collection: Vintage Ski Holiday!

What do you think?

Thank Goodness....

...There's a new Duggar episode coming on tonight! After watching the excruciating season premiere of Jon and Kate + 8, I am anxiously awaiting the smiles and harmony of the Duggar family. I know no family is perfect, but the Lord is so clearly at the center of the Duggar's lives. How refreshing.

There's so much I could say about last night's episode. It was strained, tense, and so hard to watch. I want to grab those children and just love love love on them. Jon just seemed cold and removed from the whole thing. Kate has her issues too, but at least she made herself a tiny bit vulnerable---and cried. I wanted to cry too. What started out as one of my favorite shows on television now just breaks my heart. It's a reminder to me that marriage takes work, and nothing is worth the expense of your marriage and family. Let's all hug our spouses extra today, shall we?

Memorial Weekend and a Milestone

We've had a great weekend here at the Lancaster household! Kurt's mom (known as Mia to Evy) has been here, and we've had such a good time.

Saturday Kurt and I got to go on a DATE! We had lunch, went to Lifeway, and then Barnes and Noble (do you notice that my love for books always comes out on dates?). I literally want to burst with happiness when I'm in a bookstore. As my Poppy would say, "It's just a reminder of how much there is to learn, and how you'll never have the time to learn it all." But I love the challenge! Now that I have my sweet girl, I CAN'T WAIT to read to her all of the classics. Kurt and I plan to have a library in our house someday, so we're already collecting hardcover editions. I have been looking into the Little House on the Prairie series, Secret Garden, Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea, Little Women...the list goes on and on. Here's what I got at B&N for Evy:

And......one more thing.....

The Unofficial Guide to NEW YORK CITY!!!!!!!!! That's right, I officially have a new trip to plan. Kurt and I will be going to one of my favorite cities in the fall of 2010. I know that sounds like forever away, but really it's not. I love when I have a good amount of time to plan a trip. I can read through the entire guidebook, and I go through with a highlighter and highlight the information that applies to us. It will make the actual booking/planning process SO much easier. This trip will celebrate Kurt's completion of residency. Even though he will still have to take his boards, residency will be DONE!!! Speaking of, every year residents take a practice test to prepare them for the boards. Kurt got his results back the other day. A score of 30ish means you shouldn't have to be worried about the official test, and Kurt made a 34!!!! The highest possible is in the low- to mid-40s range. I am SO proud of him!!

Today at church Evy went to the preschool area for the first time. She only went during the service, because Mrs. Pam took her home while we went to Lifegroup (Sunday School). She slept the whole time! We were so proud of her. I didn't realize how attached I've become to her; I missed her the whole time and it was difficult leaving her; not because I don't trust our preschool program---it's AMAZING. I just miss my little Bitson. Here are some pictures before church:

Evy has been loving her playmat (thanks, Lori!) lately. She loves to kick and her eyes get so bright when she gets excited. She has LOVED exercising with Mrs. Pam this weekend!

We reached a milestone today! We can tell Evy is itching to roll over, but just can't get the momentum yet. So I gave her a little push to help her, and when she landed on her tummy, she lifted her head right off the ground!!! She had only been able to hold her head up while on her Boppy pillow, not flat on the ground, so we were so excited. Oh, and bonus points for us---we got it on video AND still camera! Yessss.

What a beautiful, big girl! We love you!

Canvas Happies

Since I've started painting canvases for people, I LOVE when they send me pictures of where the canvases are or especially the people with them. Rachel was sweet enough to send me pictures with a supernice thank-you for painting these for her mother and mother-in-law. I'll also be posting these on my Artistry Website, but I wanted all of my regular readers to see them too :o) Thanks so much, Rachel!

Updates, Reality Recap, and More...

Hello friends :o)

It's been a good day here. I took my sweet baby out to Hobby Lobby and I found a new lamp and a lamp cord cover (my new favorite thing) for my new end table. I had been looking for a round pedestal-style table for the living room, but hadn't been able to find anything. But then last time I was home, I saw one of my great-grandmother's antiques that my mom had and ask her for it---and it's PERFECT! We put the Pack n' Play away for now, because I really don't think we'll use it until Evy needs a playpen....so now the room looks more open and airy I think.

Also, when I was in Cape I went into an antique store with my sisters and found some artwork. I have never regretted buying the antique art I did for the dining area, so I went ahead and bought this set of three. My sister thinks I should leave them in the frames they're in to keep the "vintage" feel, but I am contemplating re-framing just to give it a newer look. What do you think I should do?

In other news, I have slowly but surely been learning to use and utilize coupons (one of my 101 in 1001), and on my first trip I saved $40, and yesterday I saved $50! I'm not a couponing maniac by any means, but it is encouraging to know that I'm saving us some money. I had a coupon for any L'Oreal skincare product, and I bought this:

It is AWESOME!!!!!! It smells great and leaves your skin SUPER smooth and soft. I rarely rave about products, but I just had to tell you about this one. It was a really good find.

Quick Bachelorette prediction: Jillian (who I really like because she seems really sweet and genuine) needs a guy like Jake, the airline pilot. Cute, great job, no foot fetish (you know what I mean if you watched the premiere!).

Oh, and I changed my mind about Idol. Adam had some great moments, but he's just become too weird and predictable. And I love the idea of a worship leader winning American Idol. Oh, and he's also from Arkansas, where my grandparents live. GO KRIS!!

Speaking of Arkansas, my Nana made me SUPER HAPPY when she gave me a recent issue of Celebrate Arkansas magazine---it had the DUGGAR FAMILY on the cover and a great article! I think I need to make a visit. See my grandparents, stalk the Duggars, and have lunch with Kelly and Harper. Yes, I should plan that :o)

Okay, I feel like I need to address this:

Is anyone else totally depressed by this? I had a sickening feeling for awhile that things weren't going well, but this is just so sad. For those who have been living in a cave, Jon and Kate are having major marital problems. What makes this so bad is a) they have 8 children, b) they renewed their vows last August, and c) they (casually on the show) profess to be Christians. Now, I know that Christians can have marital problems--no one is exempt. I'm just sad because I feel like they have both wandered from the Lord and what is really important: not fame or money, but family and their relationship with God. I am praying that their marriage and family will be put together again. The new summer season premieres May 25, and from the commercials I've seen, it looks like they're going to address the problems. I'm expecting a lot of vagueness, but who knows? Maybe they'll just be honest and upfront with what's going on. I'm praying for the Gosselins!

On a more exciting note, Lynwood, the church my Dad pastors in Missouri, has launched its new website! I helped with the design and programming of it, and I'm so excited about it. Go to my Dad's blog and tell him what you think of the new website!

And of course, no post is complete without my little Bitson...she's been going through a phase of waking up again in the middle of the night...so I've been extra tired recently. But every single time I get up with her, it's like the Lord automatically puts the thought in my head, You need to be thankful that you HAVE a daughter to get up and feed, and that she's healthy and happy. Keep your perspective! Truly, this thought has entered my head every single time I've gotten up groggily to take care of her. It's a privilege to do it, and I need to remember that, even when it's hard!

I love you so much, Evy Kate! (And you too, friends!)

Catching Up...Part Two

Here is the last slideshow...yay!

It's been really busy since we got home. Evy had a really bad flare-up of excema on her little head. It was itchy and red, and we knew she was so uncomfortable. She was definitely not herself (read: FUSSY), and we just hated it for her. But that seems to be a little better. We are ready to get back in the swing of things when it comes to church; we've either been out of town or Kurt has been on call/post call EVERY SUNDAY. To my fellow church members: I promise we're not just skipping for fun! Ha! Just a reminder: my Dad has set up his blog, so go comment and tell him hello---I know he'd love to hear from you.

Oh, sidenote: in case anyone reads this that doesn't know what baby dedication is, it's just a time where Kurt and I committed ourselves to raising Evy in a Christian home and doing everything we can to point her towards Christ. This was NOT Evy becoming a Christian or being baptized. We believe that only Evy can make this decision for herself, and must make a personal decision to ask Jesus to be her Savior and Lord, and following that decision comes baptism. I know there are lots of different doctrines on this, and I'm not saying this to offend anyone, but I wanted to be clear on our beliefs since I posted all the pictures and talked a lot about it :o)

For the last few days of my trip to Missouri, Kurt and I were separated---he had to come home for work. Look what greeted me when I got back?

"Welcome Home Honey!" Isn't he the best?!

Also coming soon---my Happiness List (part of my 101 in 1001)!
