I've been meaning to share this for awhile, but I stumbled upon a wonderful, intriguing, and educational blog called "Hope Chest of Wisdom." It's a collection of writings from a mother to her daughter, just telling her about life, managing a home, raising children, and much more. It's simple, sweet, and I'm even learning things! Recently she included this article, which I thought was excellent. It's about learning the art and skills of managing a home, and how a person should prepare for that just as if they're preparing to be in the workforce.
I liked the article for many reasons, but here's a quote I liked:
"Of course, it is not wrong to study for another career in addition to preparing for homemaking. However, the point is that we must not pursue any career to the neglect of training to be a homemaker. God has called us to be the keepers of the home; thus I want to urge you to give careful attention to your education for this profession."
Trust me, I'm well aware that not everyone desires to be home full time. But even if you work a full-time job, you still have to manage and keep your home to some degree. The article makes the point that mothers should really train their daughters in the basic skills it takes to manage a household.
Be sure to look at Hope Chest of Wisdom and the article if you're interested. We're all called to do different things, but this might interest a few people.
