So much has been on my mind lately, not the least of which is the tragedy in Haiti. Those poor, poor people. My heart just breaks for the loss of life, shelter, food, and even dignity. I simply can't even fathom how horrendous the scene must be in that country.
Amidst all of this, I got an email from "J" and I now have a peace about the whole situation. I got a lot of background on where she was coming from. That's all I will say about it, but I feel like I know more now. I have peace.
My prayer life is full. Readers of this blog, people who hate this blog, people who need the Lord. And Haiti. A natural disaster leaves such destruction in its wake. I'm really just speechless about it all.
One thing we do know about God's peace:
"Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:7
Since we live in a fallen world, natural disasters will happen. It's out of our control. But, we as Christians can put into action everything we say with words. This is the time for us to be Jesus' hands and feet, and minister to a hurting, broken world. I urge you to donate what you can, send supplies, or even give of your time in some way.
The words in my sign "Keep Calm and Carry On" were appropriate for me today in what I've been learning and dealing with lately. But we as Christians (especially now) have a responsibility to calmly, kindly, and compassionately serve those who are lost, hurting, and feel as if they have no hope. As one reader commented today, these words are not only timely for me personally, but they're timely in the wake of this horrible disaster (thank you for the reminder, Kristina!).
"The Lord is near to those who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them." Psalm 145:18-19
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
P.S. I think the slogan on the sign is a wonderful reminder of so many things: peace, keeping our attitudes in check, going forward even when it's hard. Here's where I got mine. You can also search "Keep Calm and Carry On" on etsy and you'll get an array of choices.

That last verse is what I need to focus on. He has overcome the world.
I just wrote about God in a post tonight trying to reconcile everything.
Haiti is heavy on my mind as well.
