Carrie always asks me to do posts about my week like she and SD do every single week. They are so on top of things...it's hard for me to remember to write in a post draft every night! But this week I actually did it! So Carrie, here you go! ;)
Monday
Kurt let me sleep late while he got Evy up and fed her breakfast. My grandparents were going to leave and go home to Fayetteville this morning, so I took Evy over to say goodbye. This rarely EVER happens, but Evy was in such a poor mood. She was fussy, couldn't be pleased, and just wasn't herself. I realized it was time for her nap and it could've even been an after-affect from her shots last Friday. Whatever the case, it just wasn't enjoyable. I felt terrible about it, because I didn't want the last impression to be fussy! Ha! Thankfully my grandparents are sweet and very understanding about those things.
After Nana and Poppy left, I took Evy home and put her down for a nap. Kurt was off work, so while she napped we did some things around the house. I don't know about you, but sometimes I feel like I'm the worst housekeeper in the world. And it's not because I don't get the opportunity-- I really could get a lot done during Evy's naps-- but sometimes I'm just lazy during those times and I want to take a breather. I know that's natural for a mom of an 18 month old to want a breather during naps, but I need to do better about getting things done! Seriously. Anyway, we did laundry, vacuumed, changed the bedding, I straightened my closet (what a task), and cleaned bathrooms. It sounds like our house was a disaster, but it was just things that needed to be done all at once. I still feel like we aren't fully settled from the move, and that has really affected my mood lately. Ugh.
After Evy woke up, we just played together while Kurt worked in the yard. Kurt wanted to grill something for dinner, so we had chicken, vegetable stir fry and cous cous. It was so delicious! We watched House Hunters International while we ate. Trivia about me: I don't watch the beach episodes (which is like every single one). I only tape the ones where they're in Europe. Ha!
After dinner my mom, sister, and brother came over. I had just finished giving Evy a bath, and so they all played while Kurt and I hung a mirror in the entryway. I'm horrible at committing to things sometimes. I have to let things grow on me, too. I have this huge fear of mirrors/artwork falling after we've hung them, so I always pray after we let go! Haha! It looks good for now but I need to do so much tweaking. We put Evy to bed and my brother left. My mom, sister and I watched Bachelor Pad. Quality. Now I'm checking blogs and am about to do my Bible Study and watch a few shows I have recorded. :)
Tuesday
Evy and got up and had breakfast. My mom texted me and told me that if I wanted to go work out, she would keep Evy for me. I took her up on it! We got dressed and then I dropped Evs over at my Mom and Dad's house. I went to the hospital where Kurt works (it has a REALLY nice fitness center) and started Couch to 5K! I was successful!
After working out, I picked Evy up and took her home for naptime. I took a shower, straightened around the house and just rested. After she woke up Kurt got home, and we had steaks, cheesy rice and asparagus (with balsamic reduction sauce!) for dinner. It was absolutely delicious! We spent time in Evy's playroom just being together, and it was so much fun. We took a cute video. When Evy sees me and Kurt hug, she always comes and joins in for a group hug. It is adorable! I was trying to get her to do it for the camera, but she was distracted!
She also decided to be a massage therapist for a little while:
After we put Evy to bed, Kurt read and I watched some TV. All in all, a low-key evening!
Wednesday
We woke up and had breakfast. My mom called and asked Evy and I to join her and my dad for lunch. Yay! I love eating out, because we don't do it that often. We went to a Mexican place I really like, and Evy stole the show. She entertained all of the patrons with her flirty glances and smiles. What can I say? :) After lunch, I came home and put Evy down for a nap. I did some work on the computer. A carpenter came to look at Evy's playroom, because we're having shelves built! It's going to be wonderful, I think. I really liked the man because he was creative and spoke my language. Evy woke up and we got dressed for church. We went to the Wednesday night supper and ate with Mom and Dad (Kurt had to work late!). Mom took Evy up to the Student Ministry after dinner to see Will and Andrea lead on Praise Team. I went to adult choir and it was enjoyable to sing, as usual! I'm now at home, and we're going to put Evy to bed soon. I'm sure I'll catch up on my Bible study and a few TV shows. :)
Thursday
Kurt didn't have to go in to work today, so we all woke up and ate breakfast. Kurt went to Panera to pick up an early lunch for everyone because we were having Sarah and Ansley over to play! We had such a good time, and I think we'll be having playdates a lot more in the future!
After our fun playdate, Evy went down for a nap while Kurt went to the gym. When Evy woke up, we went over to my parents' house to see their new puppy, Buddy! He is a rescue dog (my family believes strongly in saving lives!) and he is nearly blind. He's a special needs puppy and we love him already! He loves to have his tummy scratched. Evy was so glad to have "A Dog!!!" back at Papa and Gigi's. I had actually found a dog at the Humane Society that I wanted really badly, but on the morning I emailed the lady, she said that he had just been sent to another no-kill shelter in Chicago! :( We think he's going to be adopted there. I was really sad, but it clearly wasn't meant to be.
Evy and I went home, and then my brother and I took dinner over to our new Worship Pastor's family. Sonya (the Mom of the family!) had been in bed sick all day. They have five adorable kids, and we wanted to help Brian out! :) We took them barbeque and enjoyed visiting for a bit. Then my brother and I went to the church and met Billy (who's playing the piano) to practice for our song on Sunday. I think it's going to work out well! After we finished, my brother and I went to dinner, which was so nice. I don't get a lot of one-on-one time with him, and I always enjoy that.
I got home and played with Evy and Kurt until it was bedtime. As usual, Kurt and I talked and spent time doing different things like reading, etc. until bed.
Friday
Evy and I had a morning in our pajamas, and then my parents invited us to lunch again! What a treat!! We got dressed and all went to Saffron for sushi/Asian food. My brother and I had actually gone there for dinner the night before, but it's that good! We had a nice lunch and Evy took her nap afterward. After Evy's nap, I took her over to my parents' house while I went to the gym again. Couch to 5K---Week One, Day Two complete! I felt so good afterward, and I was able to look outside at my city while I was on the treadmill. It's not lost on me for one second what a blessing it is to be back home.
After the gym, I went and had some supper with my family. My parents kept Evy for a bit while I went home and straightened the house (Kurt's parents were coming in that night). Mom brought Evy home and we played and read books. I finally had to put her to bed (she didn't nap well that day)--too bad she missed seeing her Mia and Randad come in!
This is where the night gets interesting. I bought a HUGE armoire, and a desk and chair for Kurt's office at the Tupelo Furniture Market. Kurt's parents brought the furniture to us. Well, my dad came over to try an help unload the furniture into the house, since it was in the back of a truck and we were afraid of rain. Yall---it was the biggest ordeal I have ever seen. Our across the street neighbors (who go to our church) saw that we needed help and Mr. Dennis brought over his son, Jody, and his son-in-law, Eric, to help. FIVE MEN were grunting, groaning, and problem-solving in my house at 10:00 pm. I have never felt so much guilt over buying a piece of furniture! They were all SO sweet about it, and they are literally geniuses with how they figured out the best way to get that thing up the narrow staircase, make a turn, and get it into my bedroom. Oh, the best part? Kurt was on call at the hospital and missed the whole thing! Haha! But they finally got it settled and I am FOREVER GRATEFUL!
Saturday
We all slept late and did things around the house. Evy was her happy, adorable self. I ran to Hobby Heaven Lobby to get some more fall decor (I promise pictures are coming soon), and then I went to my favorite craft/antique mall just to glance around. A dining room buffet/sideboard that I had been eyeing had just gotten a coat of black paint (exactly what I needed!). I asked if the vendor would take anything off the price, and she discounted $20. I got the buffet for $175! It's larger than the littler black one I had in there. I made some switches and things are looking really good!
Mrs. Pam (Kurt's mom) and I went out fabric shopping while Evy was napping (Kurt and his dad watched her). We did SO WELL and found a lot of fabrics I need for reupholstery items. I'm so glad to finally get those projects into gear. I bought a fabric that has a TINY touch of blue in it for the living room chair and I think I'm going with a SOLID BLUE FABRIC for the living room ottoman (which has yet to be purchased). Yall, you know how neutral-obsessed I am. This was huge, and I was kind of freaking out. We'll see how it turns out!
After fabric, I called to check in and Evy was still asleep! So we went to Macy's for me to try and find an outfit for our upcoming church directory picture. This picture has to look right. Most people would think I'm making a huge deal out of this, but people will look at this picture for several years until we make a new directory! I'm also obsessed with coordinating our clothes for said picture. Again--this is just me. I do not judge people who DON'T coordinate, but I'm OCD about us doing it! I needed a specific color of shirt and we SCOURED the mall for one. Thank the Lord, on the way out of the mall, we spotted a little jacket thing that will hopefully work. I think our outfits will look good--stay tuned!
After the mall we all went out to eat at our new favorite place, Mario's. It's an authentic Italian restaurant that has a hole-in-the-wall kind of feel. It's delicious food! Evy did well and enjoyed her Italian, just like her Mommy! :) When we got home, we worked on a few more house projects. Now I'm going to bed because I'm singing tomorrow and I'm starting to get that nervous feeling. I'm praying that I can "approach the throne of grace with confidence" (Hebrews 4:16)!
Sunday
I said goodbye to Kurt who was going on call again, and got ready for the day. My mom picked me up to get to the church at 8:30 for soundcheck (Kurt's parents' needed my car with the carseat in it for Evy). I did sound check and my voice felt wavery. I knew I had to pray the Lord's peace over me, because I wanted it to sound as good as it could--just for Him! Both services went well! We sang an amazing choir number and our Worship Pastor's wife, Sonya, literally brought the congregation to their feet with her solo. After the sermon (preached by a guest speaker, Paul Jackson, who was amazing!) it was my turn. My brother, Billy and I did our best and I just pictured myself singing only for the Lord. That was a big help, and I know I couldn't have done it without my brother next to me. People were so sweet after church, and were really encouraging. After being paralyzed with fear for years, I felt like I had finally made a breakthrough and just DONE it! It was almost like I had presented myself to the Lord while I was singing. People had no idea the background of my fear, but God knew. And I think He honored my attempt to praise Him!
Kurt's mom and I went to Hancock Fabrics to make some final purchases and after working on a few last projects, Kurt's parents headed home. They are such a huge help to me and are always willing to have servant's hearts. I'm so blessed!
Evy and I went to Sunday night church and had a wonderful time of worship. After the service, we stopped in the fellowship hall because there was a welcome reception for our new Worship Pastor and his family. Afterward, my family went over to our friends' house to watch the Dallas Cowboys! We had pizza and visited. It was a fun time! Evy went to bed easily and I'm spending time in the quiet. I miss Kurt when he's gone!
Another happy week!

Great post! We have been wanting to try Mario's, just haven't had the time when we are in Jackson. We love Stooges, another hole in the wall, but great food...BBQ salad with wine & cheese dressing is a must!
Obviously, we need pictures of all the new house purchases!! ;)
Loves it. You must now commit to doing a Weekly Happenings post weekly ;)
You had a busy week and are so lucky to have so much family to help you. Can't wait to see the transformations.
Love the post! I feel like the worst housekeeper too sometimes....i have serious guilt over it since i feel like it is part of my "job" of being at home. i'm usually either super productive or a total slug :)
libbi always joins in on our hugs too - it is so funny! love all the videos of evy kate - what a doll!
Can't wait to see all of your photos of decor and the purchases!
Ansley and I had a blast! Can't wait to do it again. I adore your decorating and can't wait to see your house purchases on an upcoming playdate! Also, we are definitely hitting Mario's and Saffron sometime soon...they are two of my favorites too!
Oh, yay! I'm SO glad you did this! Sounds like you are staying busy! I can't wait to see updated house pics! :) And I bet every SAHM feels like a terrible housekeeper at some point. I know I do!! Miss you!
PS - I have been doing some running recently too, and WOW! I'm impressed that you do it in a public gym. I have to go late at night when no one will see me. It's that bad. Ha!
Okay, where is this favorite antique/craft store of yours in Cape? I live here and never can find cute things like you do! (friend of Sarah's and member of Lynwood, btw)
